Quote from original article - How to paint realistic portraits with acrylics by Hsin Lin Contemporary nature artist Hsin Lin, (@helloinnerpeace) is stepping us through how to paint realistic portraits with acrylics. Hsin’s added her signature florals to the artwork, so you can also learn a thing or two about painting realistic flowers too. "This artwork is called “Poise and Pride.” In April 2018, it was awarded the ‘Highly Commended Acrylic’ in The Hut Gallery Open Award Exhibition. The goal of my art journey has always been to stay true to myself and be true to the present moments. In this work, I decided to add in the flowers from my front yard - peony stands for honour, and bush lily stands for good luck. In order to capture the details in this artwork, it actually took me several months to re-reconnect to myself mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I absolutely enjoyed painting these photo-realistic flowers, sometimes I even have dreams full of beautiful, delicate flower petals after a long day in the studio, which is totally worth it. I always want to deliver an important message in my floral series. Now is the very best time to be alive. Be at the moment, be yourself. Whenever you are experiencing difficulty, life itself can be bloomed like flowers with no fear." - By HSIN LIN {Enjoy the making of this artwork}
If you want a more clean-finished result, apply another layer of varnish spray. Or what I do is I brush another thin layer of diluted gesso and let dry for a day.
When it comes to the main flowers, I start with darker tone and then blended in white for a lighter tone which is added gradually step by step, so the colour hue would stay in harmony as a whole for the painting. Then more white is added in where the light sits.
